Camp Meeting

There are three camp meetings held in Illinois:

 Family Camp Meeting at Akita—June 14–20, 2009  

This year's theme will be "Sharing His Touch". The first meeting began at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, with the final meeting on Saturday evening, June 20, at 7:30 p.m.

This week-long camp meeting will be jam-packed with activities designed to bring your family closer to Christ. Whether you came for the seminars or meetings, or enjoy nature walks, paddling down the Spoon River, waterfront activities, scrambling up the climbing wall, or all of the above, one thing is certain—you'll want to make sure to get your reservation in for this year's spiritual retreat.. Click here for a map and directions to Camp Akita. For program with map Click here

    Guest speakers:
    Patterson_Stan_150Stanley Patterson
    - Morning speaker -- Dr. Stanley Patterson will be speak on the basic principles of Christian Leadership. During the meetings, Dr. Patterson will emphasize the indispensable need for the fruit of the Spirit (from Galatians 5) for all who participate in the leadership process. "Loving behavior," he says, "as demonstrated through the fruit of the Sprit, is not an option for the spiritual leader. It is an expectation.  He is an Associate Professor of Christian Ministry at Andrews University. He holds his PhD in Leadership from Andrews University. Prior to his current position he was the Vice President of Ministry of the Georgia Cumberland Conference. He has served many years in pastoral ministry including in the Greater New York Conference.

    • Philip Samaan - Evening Speaker --Dr. Philip Samaan will be speaking about Evangelism and Discipleship. He has been with the School of Religion of Southern Adventist University since 1998. He was appointed to the Ellen G. White Memorial Chair in Religion in 2000. Prior to this, he served as chief editor of the Adult Sabbath School lessons at the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and as a professor, both in the School of Religiosamaan_09n and the Theological Seminary, at Andrews University. While at the Seminary, he served as director of the North American Division Youth Resource Center and the Center for Continuing Education for Ministry. He also directed the Seminary's M.A. in Pastoral Ministry and the Doctor of Ministry programs.  His aim is to build up his students' faith in God, in the Scriptures and the Advent message and mission. His passion is helping his students emulate Christ's life and ministry in all that they do. 

      Earlier, Elder Samaan served as director of Sabbath School and Personal Ministries for the Africa-Indian Ocean Division, and director of Youth Outreach and Campus Ministries for the North Pacific Union in North America. He also pastored, and was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1979

    Hispanic Camp Meeting-- September 4 - 6, 2009

    The Hispanic Camp Meeting will be held September 4 - 6, at Camp Wakonda in Wisconsin.

    •  El Campestre Hispano se celebra anualmente en el fin de semana de "Labor Day" (Día del Trabajo). El tema de este año se titula, "Mensajes Proféticos del Tiempo del Fin." El pastor invitado será Félix Cortés. El pastor Cortés nació en el sur de México y ha trabajado en la obra de Dios durante 43 años. Ha sido pastor de iglesia; director departamental; presidente de campo; maestro universitario; orador radial; Director de colegio; Director de la Revista Adventista; edición interamericana; Director de la Revista Ministerio Adventista, y Vicepresidente de Asuntos Editoriales de la Asociación Publicadora Interamericana, y es autor de varios libros.

Chicagoland Convocation--May 16, 2009

  • "Touch Chicagoland for Jesus" was this year's convocation theme.

    • Dick Stenbakken, served as a local pastor in Wyoming, then spent the next 24 years on active duty as an Army Chaplain, including a year of combat duty in Vietnam, and four years as the director of Family Life Ministries for the Army Chief of Chaplains Office. After retiring as a full Colonel, he directed Chaplaincy Ministries on a world-wide basis for his denominational headquarters. His chief achievements are an original marriage to Ardis, and two adult professional children who are involved in their local churches.

       
    • finley_mark2Mark Finley, A native of New York, USA, Finley became a vice president at the 2005 General Conference Session in St. Louis, after serving nearly two years as general field secretary at the world headquarters, directing the Center for Global Evangelism. Evangelism is where Finley has made his mark on the world, having led in over 100 meetings around the globe with resulting baptisms numbering in the thousands. His best known association is as a television speaker, first for the It Is Written telecast for 20 years and also as the speaker for three Net evangelism satellite series, broadcast around the world. He has used his preaching and evangelism gifts to teach others in field schools and evangelism institutes throughout his career. As a vice president, Finley continues his work with evangelism and Adventist television as his primary portfolio.
      Finley and his wife, Ernestine ("Teenie"), have teamed up in ministry throughout the years and also share a family of three grown children; Debbie, Rebecca, and Mark Jr.adrienneTownsend_0401
    • Lieutenant Adrienne Townsend, Young Adult Speaker, First Seventh-day Adventist woman to serve as an active duty chaplain in the Unites States Navy. Lieutenant Townsend has served as dean of women for Lamson Hall at Andrews University. "The military is a huge mission field with the same aged people as those I have been working with here at Andrews University. I feel God has laid the foundation for me here to go out into the military and reach those who need to hear about Christ," she says. 

       
  • Community Praise Festival - Musical talents of the members and choirs of the Illinois Conference churches and the inspiring and moving personal testimonies by new members that have been touched for Jesus in the past year was an occasion to be remembered.
