 Curriculum The typical course of study described here provides a general overview of subjects commonly taught in Seventh-day Adventist schools and is derived from frameworks, curriculum guides, textbooks, and other resources in current use. The Typical Course of Study accommodates local and state laws and policies, does not list certain skills and content that are to be taught at all levels in one or more subjects, and cannot describe the variety and depth of courses such as art, music, and computer which are contingent upon unique school and community resources. GUIDING PRINCIPLES Curriculum taught in Illinois Adventist schools is based on the Word of God, is rooted in the belief that God created us with minds that can grasp spiritual and intellectual truths, and places first leading the student to accept Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. The curriculum stresses educating students for a life of worship, growth and service, places a high estimate on the worth of the individual student, and dictates that Seventh-day Adventist Christian values be developed in every subject at all grade levels. Library, research, reference and study skills; thinking; writing in all subject areas; calculator use; computer skills, graphs, tables and charts; current events; cultural, political and religious heritage; careers, and substance abuse are included at all grade levels in appropriate areas.
