Chicagoland Convocation
.
May 22, 2010

Though this meeting is now behind us, this web page remains visible for information about what happened.
  • "Rejoicing in Hope" was this year's convocation theme.
The meeting was held on Sabbath, May 22, at Wheaton College* in Wheaton, Illinois.  Click Here for Bulletin.  For a Wheaton College Campus map, Click Here
  • Guest Speaker:
finley_mark2Mark Finley, A native of New York, USA, Finley became a vice president at the 2005 General Conference Session in St. Louis, after serving nearly two years as general field secretary at the world headquarters, directing the Center for Global Evangelism. Evangelism is where Finley has made his mark on the world, having led in over 100 meetings around the globe with resulting baptisms numbering in the thousands. His best known association is as a television speaker, first for the It Is Written telecast for 20 years and also as the speaker for three Net evangelism satellite series, broadcast around the world. He has used his preaching and evangelism gifts to teach others in field schools and evangelism institutes throughout his career. As a vice president, Finley continues his work with evangelism and Adventist television as his primary portfolio.  Finley and his wife, Ernestine “Teenie,” have teamed up in ministry throughout the years and also share a family of three grown children; Deborah, Rebecca, and Mark Jr.
  • Childrens Programs - Once again quality children's programs were provided for all age groups during Sabbath School time which was 9:20am through 10:40am., and in the afternoon from 2:30pm through 4:30pm. Since it was very important that your children were cared for in a secure environment, each child was required to register with the department when they arrived.  In order for this process to be more efficient, the registration form was published here for you to download and complete ahead of time, to turn in to the relevant teacher on the day.  2010 Registration Form.
  • Meal Arrangements - The grounds of Wheaton College* were available for picnics.  People could plan to stay for lunch and dinner.  Meals were also available at the Bon Appétit Café on campus at $6.00 per person.  Tickets had to be purchased IN ADVANCE through your local church.  Church Treasurers could contact Norma Gregory at the conference office on (630) 856-2874 to arrange for tickets for their churches.
There were two seatings for lunch at 12:30pm and at 1:15pm.  The tickets were marked and color-coded accordingly.  Preference in the first seating was given to children, families with young children and those with special needs.  This allowed for the adults in the main meeting to finish the service.   It was necessary to let the local coordinator in your church know what meal seating you prefered so that, as far as possible, we could try and accommodate you.  Experience shows that there is enough good food, and that the serving is very efficient.  This system allows you to arrive at the door at a time when you will be able to enter quickly rather than line up in long lines.
  • Baptism Service - A baptismal service was conducted at the swimming Pool in the Sports and Recreation Complex between 12:45pm and 2:30pm.  The plan was for you to enjoy your lunch and then make your way over to witness your new family members' celebration.
  • Praise Festival - We enjoyed the musical talents of the members and choirs of the Illinois Conference churches and the inspiring and moving personal testimonies by new members that have been touched for Jesus in the past year.
  • Vespers / Evening Concert - The Advent Chamber Orchestra and Andrews University Singers presented an inspiring program to end a wonderful Sabbath.

  • Family Fun Night - included all of the events below
Coed Volleyball
Basketball (Men's Basketball)
            (Women's Basketball)

Please take note of the two provisions listed below for participants:
  1. All minors MUST bring a Parental Consent Form with them when they come to the gymnasium.  There must be an adult sponsor from EACH church which has children attending the Family Fun Night.  This adult need not necessarily be the parent, but the name of the adult must be included on the Consent form.
  2. If you have a team wishing to participate in indoor soccer, volleyball or basketball, reserve your spot with the youth department
